We recently went back to one of our favourite Yorkshire wedding venues for Bridget and Lee’s big day. Barmbyfield Barns at Barmby Moor is a fantastic venue on the outskirts of York. We’ve been fortunate enough to play there several times and it never disappoints.
They day began with one of the earliest sound checks we’ve done in a while. Everything was due to be set up and ready before the guests started to arrive at 1pm. We arrived on site around 11:30am and got to work setting up as the final touches were being added to the barn.
It’s not uncommon for couples to overlook the bands arrival and set up when planning their reception. For a lot of venues this isn’t a big issue but for some it’s just better (or imperative!that the band arrive and set up before the guests arrive. Most bands will happily accommodate this, but it is best to factor it in from the start.
We made ourselves scarce until showtime. The couple’s first dance was to ‘Wagon Wheel’ by Old Crow Medicine Show; they chose to dance to the original and have us play it again later in the night which was a really good way of book-ending everything. The whole night was a bit of a blur and it seemed that midnight came very soon, but there were smiles all round at the end of the night which is always a good sign!
