2018 Lord Mayor’s Ball at The Principal, York

We were hugely honoured to be asked to perform at York Lord Mayor’s Ball this year. This is a annual event that raises money for some amazing charities. This year the Lord Mayor and Sheriff are supporting three local charities:

The event took place at The Principal, which is the very grand looking hotel right next to York Railway Station. Alongside the Victorian grandeur of the main building it also boasts a modern events space, which is where we set up for the 150 or so of the Mayor’s guests.

As with any event of this size and nature there were a lot of elements to coordinate, from other musicians to speeches and a charity auction. We have lot of experience of these type of events so we were able to fit in with the organisers plans without a problem, and we took to the stage pretty much on schedule.

Unlike many performers at corporate events we didn’t just launch into the same set as the night before. We’d spent a bit of time checking out the crowd as they arrived to make sure we pitched our song choice for the people we were there to entertain. For this particular crowd it meant we were focusing more on the 60s, 70s, and party songs.

We must have chosen well because the dance floor was full as soon as we started playing and didn’t empty all night! We kept the party going after our performance with DJ set from Tom right up until carriages arrived at 1am.

This was a great event for some very deserving causes, and we were proud to have been a part of it.
