We were lucky enough to be asked to play for Sara and Kieran when they were married at The Old Deanery in Ripon, North Yorkshire. We were treated to a great night with wonderful people in an a gorgeous setting.
If you’re looking for a fantastic independent venue for your wedding, this one has to be on your list. The venue itself is right in the heart of Ripon’s historical town, opposite the cathedral. It’s picture perfect both inside and out with a garden that’s ideal for summer weddings. Whilst the guests made the most of the outdoor space, we quickly got to work setting up and sound checking.
Our bride and groom came to see us whilst we were setting up to check that we were ok, and the venue brought us a tray of tea and coffee. By the time were ready we were feeling very well cared for, and we knew we were going to have a great night!
Sara and Kieran had chosen ‘The One’ by Kodaline for their first dance. We’d worked up a special acoustic arrangement which really let the lyrics stand out and perfectly matched the occasion. As soon as that was finished we turned back to our rock and roll roots and brought the whole band in to keep everyone on the dance floor.
It was quite a young crowd – at least from our perspective! – so we pulled out a lot more indie and pop tunes than we might usually for a wedding, with everything from Bruno Mars to the Arctic Monkeys going in to the mix. By the end of the night we had a full dance floor in front of us, so it only seemed right to finish with a sing along version of ‘Shout’, and our audience were in fine voice!
