York wedding at the DeGrey Rooms

The first of our autumn weddings took place at the DeGrey Rooms in the centre of historic York. Jamie and Kim had invited the band to share their big day and to help them and their guests get the party started.

It was a glorious day and unseasonably warm, so we worked up a real sweat loading in to the ball room on the first floor. Our couple had arranged with us to arrive and set up before the wedding party arrived; with an empty room we were able to get everything in place and sound check quickly. We even got a small round of applause from the venue staff after finishing sound check – which was a nice surprise!

Jamie and Kim had requested ‘500 Miles’ by The Proclaimers as their first dance. It was an inspired choice that really got the wh0le crowd involved and set the mood for the rest of the night. We really enjoyed playing it too, but we did find that it’s very hard to sing without slipping in to a Scottish accent! We think we got away with it though…

The first dance had very much set the tone for the rest of the night, so we swung into party mode straight away. There were 60’s classics by the Beatles and the Kinks, some noughties indie from the Killers, some pop from Adele and Bruno Mars, and even some 70’s rock from the Who and Fleetwood Mac for the guitar heroes in the crowd.

This was certainly one of those nights that ended too soon. We had a great time and we know that Jamie and Kim did too. They were even kind enough to leave a very complementary online review on this site. Check it out.
