We recently had the great pleasure of playing for Dougy and Heather’s wedding at the Pheasant Hotel in Harome, near Helmsley, North Yorkshire. This was our first time at this amazing Country Hotel venue which boasts an award-winning restaurant as well as a stunning location in a picture-perfect village.
Our happy couple had come down to check us out at one of our monthly shows in York prior to booking us, so they already knew how we worked and how we could fit into their special day. There are a lot of wedding bands who only play private events, so it’s hard for couples to really see what they’re booking. We recognise that people don’t want to leave things to chance on their wedding day, so we try to play a public event at least once a month.
The first dance request was ‘I Got You Under My Skin’ which we’d all really been looking forward to playing. We’re usually hired because we’re a rock and roll band, so it was great to get the opportunity to play a standard for a change! The first dance is always a great indicator of how the night is going to go – and the fact that the dance floor was heaving by the end of the song indicated that Dougy and Heather’s guests were 100% up for celebrating with them!
There was a strong Scottish theme to the wedding, so we were able to customise our ‘iPod DJ’ playlists to reflect this and keep the dance floor full in between our sets. We also made sure our sets really covered the decades and reflected the real family vibe at this wedding – we squeezed in everything form Elvis to Girls Aloud and most points in between! All in all this was a fantastic night at a truly special venue.
