So This Is Christmas

Here we are in December, and for the last couple of weeks we’ve been performing our run of Christmas and New Year shows at the Cedar Court Grand Hotel in York. This is our second year playing these shows and we’ve been building up to them for a few months now. The Cedar Court is the only five star hotel in Yorkshire so we knew we had to do them proud and give the crowd a night to remember.

We play at a lot of hotels, but this really is a class apart. The rooms are stunning and the attention to detail on display is absolutely amazing. We also forgot just how friendly the staff are. Everyone we meet, from the guys in the kitchen to the staff delivering service at the tables is so nice we almost forget we’re working!

Each night we ensure we are all set up and sound checked before the guests arrive and we stay well out of the way whilst they enjoy a five course meal. Last night was no exception, but we did grab a sneaky peak at the crowd to get the measure of them and ensure our set was tailored to them rather than roll out the same ‘turn’ every night. But it is always a worry if people are going to be in the mood for dancing after such a grand meal!

We didn’t need to worry. From the opening bars of Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, our first number, they were on their feet. Not just on the dance floor but all across the room. It was a party night so we threw in something for everyone, from Adele to Elvis; and, of course, we had to end the night with a Christmas classic. ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ by Slade seemed to be the only logical choice.

The end of the night came too soon. But it’s been a great start this run of shows. It’s going to be a great Christmas!
