Summer Loving – The Players Wedding Band at The Old Lodge, Malton

The Players Yorkshire Wedding Band at The Old Lodge, Malton

This weekend saw the band perform at another great Yorkshire wedding in another new venue for us. Becky and Andy had asked us to perform at their wedding at The Old Lodge in Malton, in between York and Scarborough.

Le Tour fever had set in across the county, so we gave ourselves plenty of time to make the short journey from York to Malton. When we arrived we were confronted with a stunning venue set in its own grounds, which the wedding party were making the most of in the sunshine!

We managed to tempt everyone back inside in time for the first dance. Becky and Andy had asked for Adele’s version of ‘Make You Feel My Love’ and we were only too happy to oblige. We came up with a simple voice and guitar arrangement for the happy couple so they could enjoy their first dance as a married couple to something unique to them and their big day.

Another unique touch to the event saw us playing three shorter sets instead of two. Given how hot it was, this really worked – the dancers could pop outside for a breather after half an hour. It also gave us the chance to cool down!

However, when we hit our final set we decided to stretch things out a bit and keep the dancers busy. ‘Mr Brightside’ by The Killers turned into a crowd singalong, and ‘Valerie’ seemed to have the whole place on their feet. Even after our last song things didn’t stop – the crowd even gave us their impromptu rendition of ‘Angels’ by Robbie Williams – although we weren’t too sure they had all the words right…

All too soon we were packing down and getting ready to leave, and with this being a relatively local show for us, we even made it home by one am. We hope it isn’t too long before we’re back again.
