We recently made our first visit to Rudding Park near Harrogate for Caroline and Richard’s wedding. The daffodils were in bloom and the Yorkshire countryside was coming to life – this was very much a spring wedding.
Our couple had asked us to arrive and set up before the ceremony, so we got to the venue for mid-morning. For some weddings it just makes more sense to be the band set up ahead of the guests arriving, but there are still some performers who refuse to do this. We’re always happy to do our best to accommodate such requests and we always try to come up with a cost effective proposal that doesn’t mean our clients are paying for us to hang around all day.
In the end it was one of those nights where everyone was having so much fun that timings had already slipped quite a bit by the time we arrived back at the venue for the evening. It’s a rare wedding where things don’t change on the night and we’re always relaxed about any last minute changes to timings and such like. After a quick discussion with our couple and the event planner we had a revised running order and we were good to go.
Caroline and Richard had settled on ‘Thinking Out Loud’ by Ed Sheeran for their first dance – quickly followed by an impromtu rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ for one of the guests! From that point on it was straight into the party set to keep the dance floor busy.
It’s not often that the party is still going strong when we leave, but this was a wedding where nobody seemed too interested in going to bed. We said our goodbyes and left the revellers in full flow – a strange feeling at 1am – but like we said, it was just one of those nights!
