The Boys Are Back In Town – The Players Wedding Band At Merchant Adventurers Hall York

We’ve had a run of out of town shows over the last few weeks, so it was nice to be back in our hometown of York on Friday performing for Jane and Andy at their wedding. They’d chosen the Merchant Adventurer’s Hall in York as the venue for their big day and we certainly had to put on a special show to match the setting we were in.

Construction on the hall began in 1357, so parts of the building are over 650 years old and it is one of the finest surviving medieval guild halls in the world. One of our favourite things about this venue is the almost ‘secret’ entrance from one of York’s busy shopping streets. Just a short walk down a passageway and you’ve stepped back in time over half a millenia.

We had a bit of extra help on the night. Our good friend Phil from MOR Music in York was standing in for Paul on guitar. This is something that separates the wheat from the chaff when it comes to wedding bands. A properly organised band will have a deputy for every member so, no matter what, the show goes on. Phil has his own party band called FUNKtion, so he knew exactly what was required – and he certainly delivered too!

To add the the buzz of playing at home, we were lucky enough to have a great crowd who were raring to go. Our last set finished with a full dance floor, which we kept packed with our ‘iPod DJ’ right until the end of the night. We introduced this service as standard this summer and it really makes a difference – our couples can choose what songs they want to hear and, because they know their guests better than anybody, it really guarantees a good time for everyone.

We had a great homecoming, and we’re back at the Hall next month. Watch this space…
